The Receiver of Memory
There is a new Reciever of Memory every time the Reciever gets old of age. The Reciever of Memories recieves all memories from before "Sameness", so that the people in the community don't have to feel pain or suffering.
Ceremony of Twelve
The Ceremony of Twelve is one of the most important ceremonies in the community because you get your job assignment. An assignment is a job that you do for the rest of your life until you enter the House of the Old. You wait for the chief elder with the rest of the eleven group. You wait for your number to be called and when it is called you go up to the stage where the cheif elder is and get your assignment. When it was Jonas' turn to get called, they skipped him to make the biggest announcement. The big announcement was Jonas was goung to be the next reciever of memories.
Ceremony of Releasing
Release is is when the community is going to kill you. They "release" you when you are too old to be in the community to keep you out of the pain of being old. They also release you when you are born as a twin because in the community you can't have two people that look alike because then the people will get confused which is why they release one. They also release you when you are unwanted in the community. The community is very weird and has its own way of doing things.

The Ceremony of Nine
At the Ceremony of Nine the children recieve their own bicycles. The older siblings usually teach their younger sibling how to ride a bike before the ceremony even though technically they are not allowed to. The girls also no longer need to wear ribbions in their hair and are removed at the ceremony. All of the ceremonys take place every December.
The Ceremony of Birth
In the world where Jonas lives, a woman doesn't give birth to her own child. She and her husband are "assigned" a child. We believe that the reason for this is because that the community might be afraid of having an over populated community. You also never know if a parent might not want a child because it's not "perfect" like the community expects it to be.
